TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) announced that the Aerial Tram will be open to the public beginning on Saturday, May 17, marking the official kickoff for summer operations at the resort.
The Aerial Tram will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 17 through Oct. 6.
“We’re always thrilled to announce the opening of the Aerial Tram, because it marks the official beginning of summer at JHMR,” JHMR Vice President of Operations Tim Mason said in the announcement. “The tram is the highest point that many people will access in the Tetons. There are wonderful hiking opportunities and 360-degree views, and skiing is still available in the backcountry. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to experience the unique adventures our Aerial Tram offers.”
Built in 2008, the Aerial Tram — nicknamed “Big Red” — ascends 4,139 vertical feet from the base in Teton Village to the top of Rendezvous Mountain at 10,450 feet in 12 minutes, according to JHMR. Upon reaching the summit, JHMR encourages guests to explore the Grand Teton Skywalk, Cody Peak Lookout and the network of hiking trails marked with educational signage.
JHMR also announced that it will complete scheduled upgrades to the kitchen and food service areas at Corbet’s Cabin by this Saturday. Located at the summit of Rendezvous Mountain, Corbet’s Cabin will be open for waffles and other snacks on the tram’s opening day.
JHMR reminds visitors that early season conditions still exist and to bring appropriate clothing to stay warm and dry. Guests are allowed to ski in the backcountry, accessible through the resort’s backcountry gates located near the top of the Aerial Tram, but as part of JHMR’s special use permit with Bridger-Teton National Forest, no skiing is permitted within the ski area boundary after the winter operating season. GTNP wrote via press release that no uphill skiing is allowed, and there are no ski patrol representatives on duty.
