DRIGGS, Ida. — Teton School District 401 decided last night that home-based learning will end for most students Friday, May 22.
The Board of Trustees made the call to approve an early finish at a teleconference meeting Monday night. They also discussed graduation plans and moved forward to replace the Teton High mascot.
Students who have not met their academic obligations by May 22 will have the chance to work through Thursday, June 4 to finish assignments. Teachers will assist those students and all staff will complete their contracts through June 4.
Teton High’s graduation will still happen Thursday, June 4, its original date. But to accommodate social distancing requirements, the ceremony will be held at the Spud Drive-In south of Driggs. Each THS graduating senior will receive a single admission ticket for their family’s vehicle. Graduates will still receive their diplomas, one at a time, on a stage built in front of the drive-in screen.
After dark, a video of pre-recorded speeches from students, staff, and administrators will play on the screen.
Basin High’s graduation will also be held on June 4 at the Spud, but will start at 5:30 p.m.
The board also voted unanimously to move forward with a process to find a new mascot for Teton High School Monday night. The public is encouraged to suggest their ideas based on criteria set by the mascot committee until Tuesday, May 26. The committee will then review the list and whittle options down. The final nominations will go up for an online vote for all students grades 8-12.
