JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Beginning tomorrow, more than 18,000 women construction volunteers will unite nationwide to build up their communities with Habitat homeowners as part of National Women Build Week 2018.
For the 11th year, Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s are engaging women nationwide to work together to build Habitat homes during this year’s weeklong event from May 5-13. In preparation for the build week, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area (Teton Habitat) is asking women, and men, to get involved by signing up to volunteer and build during National Women Build Week to promote and empower women in our community.
“This is my favorite build day of the year!” said Elizabeth Ferguson, Outreach Coordinator of Teton Habitat. “We’re excited to partner with Lowe’s to educate, inspire and empower women to advocate for affordable housing and actively participate on a construction site.”
James Frison, Lowe’s Director of Community Relations, added, “Lowe’s is in the business of helping people improve and maintain their home. Lowe’s Heroes have helped build hundreds of Habitat homes across the country and National Women Build Week is another chance for Lowe’s to reinforce our long-standing commitment to Habitat, Women Build and communities where our employees and customers live and work.”
Teton Habitat will host a kick off to National Women Build Week on May 5 from 9am-4pm at The Grove, located at 845 W. Snow King Ave in Jackson. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in the Kick Off festivities but can also build on May 9, 10 and 12 to partake in National Women Build Week. This year Teton Habitat is building eight homes for local families, and volunteers on May 5 can expect to learn how to install siding, do proper painting techniques, and more.
Teton Habitat broke ground at The Grove, Phase III in June 2017. The Grove, Phase III is being built by Teton Habitat in three stages, eight homes at a time. Upon completion of Stage 1, in October, these homes will provide a stable place to live for thirteen adults and twenty-one children. Teton Habitat will continue to build 16 more homes at The Grove. The entire project is schedule to be completed in 2021.
National Women Build Week, a nationwide initiative created by Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s in 2008, has brought together more than 117,000 all-women construction volunteers to build or repair homes with nearly 5,000 families over the past 10 years. This year, Lowe’s donated nearly $2 million to Habitat for Humanity to support the 2018 National Women Build Week, which is set to take place in 300 communities nationwide.
