JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) team is in full swing for the winter rescue season.

According to a Monday Facebook post, TCSAR received a page-out on Friday at 11:40 a.m. when a Garmin SOS activation came through to Teton County Dispatch. A 42-year-old male crashed on his snow machine and sustained a significant leg injury in the Togwotee Pass area.

“Teton County Search & Rescue mobilized a response that included teams in the helicopter and on snowmobiles,” reads the social media post. “The helicopter team, consisting of the pilot and four SAR volunteers, was able to locate the party and land near the patient.”

The patient was assessed and prepared for internal transport. Three of the volunteers remained in the field, while the pilot and one TCSAR volunteer accompanied the patient to a waiting ambulance near Togwotee Mountain Lodge.

Due to declining weather, the helicopter was unable to return to the group in the backcountry. TCSAR’s snowmobile team drove out to pick up the remaining volunteers, completing a 22-mile trip. All teams were out of the field by 6 p.m., and the mission was completed in 6 hours and 20 minutes.
