JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) was mobilized on Friday, April 12, to assist an injured snowboarder on No Name Peak, south of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, the agency has announced.

A local male “severely” injured himself by “striking rocks while descending the peak” on Friday afternoon, according to TCSAR. The TCSAR helicopter team was dispatched, along with Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Ski Patrol. The heli volunteers landed within 50 feet of the snowboarder, treated his injuries at the scene and then loaded him into the ship for transport. The patient was met at the TCSAR hangar by a Jackson Hole Fire/EMS ambulance.

TCSAR noted in its announcement that this was a particularly expedient rescue mission. The agency said that its helicopter lifted off within 25 minutes of receiving the rescue call, and the entire mission was completed in 58 minutes.

“TCSAR would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that they should dial 911 in case of a backcountry emergency,” the agency posted to Facebook. “If you have cellular service, that is the quickest and most efficient way to get a rescue started.”

Also noteworthy is the fact that this was TCSAR’s second trip to No Name this month. No Name Peak is most often reached via the backcountry gates of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. TCSAR short-hauled an injured skier from the area on April 2.
