JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) announced that it was mobilized on Friday, Sept. 13, to assist an injured man who had been bucked off of his horse near Horse Creek.

The 50-year-old visitor was on a guided hunting trip when the incident occurred. TCSAR volunteers responded with the agency’s helicopter and sent a ground team to the trailhead as backup. The helicopter landed near the patient, who was incapable of walking.

“Without the use of the helicopter, the team would have been hiking in at least six miles to bring the man out in the wheeled litter,” TCSAR posted to Facebook. “Instead, the volunteers had a short walk to reach the patient from the helicopter.”

Volunteers assessed the man’s condition and loaded him into a full-body vacuum splint known as “the suck bag.” The team then carried him to the helicopter, which transported the patient to meet an ambulance at the TCSAR hangar. All told, the mission was completed in two hours and five minutes.
