WYOMING –U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., went to the Senate floor yesterday to show his support of President Trump’s nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Neil Gorsuch. Enzi recalled being immediately impressed Gorsuch when they met years ago. He added, it would be hard for anyone to doubt his character and qualifications.

“I am confident that Neil Gorsuch is qualified to be a member of the Supreme Court because of his steadfast commitment to the rule of law,” Enzi said during his address. “His opinions reflect his respect for following the law as it is written, and applying and adhering to judicial precedent. He is a judge who applies the law to the facts of a case and reaches the conclusion that examination yields, regardless of his own personal beliefs.”

U.S. Senator John Barrasso, R-Wyo., also backs Gorsuch for the high court.

“Neil Gorsuch, in my opinion, is the right person for America and certainly from a Wyoming standpoint. His mom was born in Casper. The family built the Wolf Hotel in Saratoga before Wyoming was even a state,” Barrasso said. “But the thing I like best about Judge Gorsuch is that he believes and understands fully that the Constitution is a legal document, not a living document. It was built for rigidity, not flexibility. He is one justice who will make sure that he applies the law and doesn’t write the law. I look forward to supporting his nomination.”

Stamping out Gorsuch

Ben Cohen (left)

Gorsuch is getting no such love from Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream cofounder Ben Cohen. Cohen calls himself the Head Stamper in a unique campaign to show displeasure with Trump’s nominee and politics in general by legally defacing money with a $5 rubber stamp his organization will mail contributors. Cohen claims to have 65,000 already on board and stamping their money.

“The Supreme Court sided with billionaires when it ruled on Citizens United v. F.E.C., a landmark case that created Super PACs and opened the floodgates of dark money pouring into our political elections,” read a statement from Cohen in an email from Stamp Stampede via Our Revolution. “Over the past several weeks, ads funded by the same untraceable dark money have propped up Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch to push him through his Senate confirmation hearing. Gorsuch’s support for the use of unlimited and unaccountable money in politics weakens our Constitution and the right of free speech for all people. We need a Supreme Court justice who will stand on our side.”
