WYOMING — With immigration reform remaining one of the biggest policy issues in 2020 and $7.2 billion in Pentagon funds potentially going toward border wall funding, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2020’s Economic Impact of Immigration by State.
In order to determine which states benefit most from immigration, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 23 key metrics, ranging from median household income of foreign-born population to jobs generated by immigrant-owned businesses as a share of total jobs.
Wyoming ranked near dead last in most categories including Lowest Percent of Foreign-Born STEM Workers Out of Total STEM Workforce and Socioeconomic Contribution.
The numbers, notably, do not seem to reflect Teton County’s reliance on an immigrant workforce that has now become a significant portion of the population. That, or, once again, Jackson Hole has proven itself far removed from the rest of the state.
Immigration by language
On a related note, Business Insider released an interesting report with accompanying map that depicts what the most common language spoken in each state excluding English and Spanish.
At first blush, it is evident the enormous influence of German migration to the Rocky Mountain West. Also eye-opening is the growing Far East representation with Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Tagalog dominating many states.
