State soccer tourney gets underway in Jackson

JACKSON HOLE, WYO — Note to all soccer teams headed Jackson for the Wyoming State Tournament: Pack your long johns.

The 2019 WHSAA State 3A/4A Girls and Boys Soccer Championships get underway today beginning at 9am and run through Saturday, May 18.

The weather forecast for tomorrow and Saturday is brutal with highs topping out at a mere 47 degrees…if that. Soccer fans should bring the popup as well. Rain is forecast for much of the day Friday with thunderstorms and scattered showers, even mixing with snow early Saturday morning.

It will be the girls that have it especially rough. The 4A Girls get underway first each day at 9am. Friday morning at 9am soccer fans should expect 43°F and raining. On Saturday at 9am, it will be a chilly 38°F with a rain/snow mix.

Participants are used to fickle Wyoming weather; it’s the fans we’re worried about. Dress warm.

Top of the tram

Meanwhile, out at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, where winter never leaves it seems, the tram opens this Saturday. Expect waffles and winter at the top as the upper elevation forecast for the 10,000 feet is looking like 29 degrees for a high on Saturday with scattered snow showers.

Top of the Tram forecast for opening day: 29F and snowing. (JHMR)
