JACKSON, Wyo. — START Bus confirmed that the START Pay app alert issued June 5 due to technical glitches in the system is still ongoing.
Riders are encouraged to call 307-413-4521 or go into the START office (55 Karns Meadow Drive) or Town Hall (150 E Pearl Ave) to purchase passes and tickets.
According to Bruce Abel, transit operations director for START Bus, the company received calls from a handful of customers saying that they had used the app and incurred multiple charges for the passes they purchased. Though employees have gone through the app to try and replicate the issue to understand it, they have been unsuccessful thus far.
“We are attempting to work through to the root cause. It’s not an issue that we have been able to replicate, so we’re working with the venders and we just felt that it was appropriate to advise our customers that there are other ways that they can purchase their passes,” Abel says.
The app is still operational and people are able to use it, but due to the payment issues with some customers START Bus is suggesting people may want to use one of the other avenues.
Abel also confirmed that START Bus is in the process of updating all their technology and are planning to work with a new electronic fare collection company Masabi. This new technology will include Smart Cards and phone-based passes. Masabi is anticipated to begin initial research and installation in July in an attempt to make the new system a more seamless experience for START Bus customers.
The company recently added eleven new START Buses to its fleet to serve riders in the Jackson Hole community.
