JACKSON, Wyo. — Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 21, START transit users can purchase tickets on the Transit app.
START has launched the mobile ticketing platform with the help of tech company Masabi and its Justride system, according to START’s press release. Riders can now use the Transit app to purchase fare, plan trips and track buses.
“As one of the United States’ premier winter sports destinations, how Jackson and the surrounding area presents itself to visitors is vital,” START Transit Director Bruce Abel said in a statement. “This partnership with Masabi and the Transit app sees considerable improvements to our reliability and consistency of service delivery, putting more information into riders’ hands than ever before and making purchasing tickets and boarding START buses as easy as Plan. Pay. Ride.”
Buses have been fitted with new ticket scanners, so riders can scan their phone when boarding.
The upgrade arrives a few weeks before START will begin its airport shuttle pilot program, offering service to the Jackson Hole Airport beginning Dec. 16. Tickets for the airport shuttle will be available on the app.
In the announcement, the agency notes that further developments to the app will include an account-based ticketing system, in which “passengers will no longer need to select fares or purchase tickets before boarding and instead simply tap their mobile devices or smart cards to travel, helping speed up boarding times.”
