JACKSON, Wyo. — In a message posted on the Snow King Sports and Event Center website, the ice rink announced the temporary and immediate closure of the rink as of Nov. 12. The closure comes on the heels of recent criticism shared on social media following the Nov. 6th and 7th Moose Hockey games.
The message cited an increase in COVID-19 cases in the community as well as some cases identified in the youth and adult skate community, prompted the closure. All events at the rink are canceled until further notice, including the upcoming Moose Hockey games scheduled for next weekend, Nov 20th and 21st, against Park City.
The rink has not announced a timeline for reopening but noted, “We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will work in conjunction with the Town of Jackson and Teton County Public Health officials to reopen the rink as soon as safely possible.”
Last weekend, the Snow King Center was scrutinized for a photo posted to Facebook depicting an overcrowded fan section. The rink responded to the incident, saying in part, “ One group of 20 entered the Center together, they sat together and distanced from others. A FB post captured a single cropped photo of this group creating the misleading impression that the Center was overly crowded and unsafe, and somehow contributed to the increase in daily cases reported on Sunday morning. That was categorically not the case and does not reflect the painstaking efforts the Center’s staff, working with Teton County health officials, took to ensure safe and community responsible events.”
