JACKSON, Wyo. — Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer caught the setting sun over the Tetons on Monday, as daylight slipped away and closed out the holiday weekend.
Low-hanging clouds and wildfire smoke haze worked together to set the stage for the sun’s evening illumination of the valley.
According to Merriam-Webster, the streaks of light emerging from the clouds are called crepuscular rays. Merriam-Webster defines this kind of ray as “a streak of light that seems to radiate from the sun shortly before or after sunset, when sunlight shines through a break in the clouds or a notch in the horizon line, and illuminates atmospheric haze or dust particles.”
