JACKSON HOLE, WYO — Over 99 billion served…Wait, what? Just to confirm, we are not talking about Moose meat, right?

This photograph appeared in the 2004 pictorial wildlife book Moose Views, where it was credited to Steve Kaufman and said to capture a curious moose at a McDonald’s in the city of Homer, Alaska, not Madawaska, Maine as sometimes purported and debunked by Snopes.com. (Steve Kaufman)

Unlike a popular faux-photography post entitled “McMoose” making the rounds on the Interwebs, this shot is for real, 100% certified fresh Jackson Hole, Wyoming McDonald’s restaurant. It was snapped by Buckrailer Warren Machol.

McDonald’s spokesperson insisted there are still no plans to include chocolate mousse as a menu item available in the US. That dessert is currently served in Israel and Russia only.

All kidding aside, this moose appearance—as well as many others in and around town—are a result of deep snows driving animals out of higher ground and into town in search of food. Don’t try to help with a handout. Give these animals plenty of space as they just need about another month to turn the corner on winter.

A Ronald McDonald moose was found outside the McDonald’s Canadian headquarters near the Don Valley Parkway in Toronto, Ontario on October 2009. (Pinterest)
