SNAPPED: First gondola cabin on the cable at SK

JACKSON, Wyo. — This week, the new Snow King (SK) gondola is being outfitted with cabins, bringing it one step closer to opening for winter operations.

While the public may see gondola cabins on the line and spinning in the next few weeks, the new eight-passenger Leitner-Poma Gondola will likely not be in service on opening day.

“We are planning to open on schedule Dec. 4. The new gondola and backside lift will be open for the season, but will likely open later mid-December to allow for sufficient snowmaking/snow coverage,” said SK General Manager Ryan Stanley.

Construction on Snow King Mountain has been an ongoing process this summer and is due to wrap up soon. Trail Closure signage and fencing has been removed on the mountain; however, work will continue through mid-November.

“Please stay well away from heavy equipment operators. Operators cannot see behind them and may turn their machines at any time, please do not get anywhere near equipment operations,” read SK’s construction page.
