YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Winter waterfalls in Yellowstone National Park (YNP) are quite a work of art.
On Sunday, YNP shared some photos of the park’s beloved waterfalls on social media, but instead of raging, thundering flows, the pics show the quieter side of the cascades. The icy cataracts hang from the brink, as if frozen in time.
“Ice forms in varying shapes depending on conditions, revealing a different masterpiece each year,” YNP wrote.
The frozen landscape transforms the falls into delicate icicles and masses of ice dangling from above. YNP is no stranger to subzero temperatures in the winter, with temps sometimes reaching as cold as -40°F. In 1933, YNP recorded its lowest temp on record at -66°F.
