The event draws around 2,500 people each year, according to the association. Folks happily waited in a line that wound through R Park to get a plate of chicken, potatoes, coleslaw and a roll.

The funds raised at the event go toward the firefighters’ training, gear and supplies. According to the association, firefighting gloves alone can cost $100, and the complete wearable fire gear for entering a burning structure can run up to $15,000 or more.
