JACKSON, Wyo. — The 4th annual Snake River Fest, a community event hosted by Snake River Fund and JH Kayak Club, will be occurring from June 6 to June 8. The multi-day event includes on-water competitions, family-friendly activities, live music, educational events and culminates on Sunday June 8th at Phil Baux Park at the base of Snow King.
This growing and regionally recognized festival celebrates the heritage of the Wild & Scenic Snake River system and the wider river running community.
Festivities start on Friday, June 6, with The Big Race On The Hoback. Hosted at the Gilcrease Ranch, this Class II/III whitewater race features youth divisions and both kayak and inflatable categories. Enjoy the post-race award ceremony and the all-night Hoback Hoedown after party with food, drinks and live music from Outta Shorts.
The race starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes a mandatory safety briefing. Racers are asked to be at the ranch by 5:30 p.m. Race entry fees are $25 for kayaks and SUPs, $125 for R6 rafts. Free shuttles are provided to the race start line and from the race finish line.
Entry to the Hoback Hoedown after party and camping for non-racers and general public is $10/person. On-site camping is free to the public.Â
On June 7, some of the best paddlers in the Rocky Mountain west will come together to compete in the Greys River Boat-X. This fast-paced, full contact boatercross-style whitewater race features highly-skilled competitors taking on some of the most challenging rapids in the watershed. All proceeds benefit the Jackson Hole Kayak Club.
Competitors can register early online or at the Gilcrease Cabin on June 6 between 4 and 6 p.m. during the Hoback Hoedown and Big Race On The Hoback or on race day at Snaggletooth Rapids on the Greys River at 11 a.m. Boater X heats begin at 12:30 p.m.
Racers and spectators will gather at Melvin’s Taproom in Alpine for the post-race celebration and award ceremony with great food, brews and live music.

A more relaxing Saturday can be had at JH Land Trust’s R Park, just north of Wilson Bridge on Hwy 390, where Wyoming Game and Fish Department will host Kids Fishing Day. This free family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and is full of educational resources for attendees.
Snake River Fest concludes with Festival Village at Phil Baux Park at the base of Snow King. Attendees can explore interactive booths, enjoy beer tents and food trucks, and take in live performances from Wyoming’s Jalan Crossland and the always energetic Boot Juice.
