WILSON, Wyo. — Work will be completed on the main artery connecting Teton Valley, Wilson and Teton Village to downtown Jackson before the holiday weekend.
Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) Resident Engineer Bob Hammond told Buckrail on Tuesday that the road construction project encompassing the WY22/WY390 intersection and the Snake River Bridge will be done by the contract completion date, which is Monday, June 30.
The last couple weeks have seen traffic shifted left and right in order to put in guardrails and other finishing touches. Hammond stated that there will still be some “minor punchlist work,” but the overall impact to traffic will be finished before July, and two lanes in each direction will be fully open to vehicles.
“Traffic has been crazy … people want to slow down and see what’s going on,” Hammond said. “So, thank you for everyone’s patience. We are on the homestretch.”
After the holiday weekend, construction crews will need to complete another project that is outside the contract for the bridge construction. They will be closing down one bridge lane at a time, from July 7 to 12, to put an epoxy overlay on the pavement. This step is weather dependent and cannot be done at night.
Serious conversations about replacing the Snake River Bridge began in 2019, and it has been under construction for over two years.
WYDOT reminds drivers to be cautious of roadside workers and obey all roadside signs, traffic control devices and closures.
