WYOMING – Didn’t get that new Ian Munsick release in your stocking this Christmas? Treat yourself.

The Sheridan-native has been steadily making his way onto the national scene since moving to Nashville for his singer/songwriter career. Critics love him and fans are flocking. And what’s best (at least for us in Wyoming) is Munsick never strays far from his home state roots in his song material.

His new self-titled EP features five songs that show off Munsick’s growing talent as much as they do Wyoming.

“When I wrote “Horses are Faster” I was a green, 18-year-old kid who was naive to the hustle and bustle of Nashville. I was as still living in Sheridan, Wyoming (#kingropes) and writing songs about the only thing I knew: home,” Munsick said. “After moving to Nashville, I began to collaborate a lot more with incredibly talented songwriters, producers, and musicians. I am very confident in all of these tunes, mainly because of the friends and fans that have been so essential in giving me tons of feedback on each and every one of them.”

Munsick might be moving in bigger music industry circles these days but he’s not one to ever forget his roots. He’s Wyoming through and through. You’ll rarely catch the 24-year-old without a King Ropes ball cap on his head. He admits he’s not nearly the cowboy his brothers are but hailing from the town where the iconic lasso-maker is headquartered, Munsick sure represents.

And he’s also, uh, peed on an electric fence. His words.

While Munsick was born into cowboy life, he’s picked up a musical flair as well. He was raised youngest of three boys on ranches around Big Horn and Tongue River. At 14, he shipped off to high school in Colorado Springs and eventually landed in Sheridan College for a year before transferring to Belmont University in Nashville where he graduated with a degree in Songwriting and Music Business.

Munsick can play just about any instrument. He took piano lessons beginning at age 4. He plays guitar, bass, and anything else with strings.

Munsick wrote the EP’s first track, “Know You,” with one of his favorite cowriters, Sam Crabtree. “The same day we wrote it, I worked up a demo and took it to one of the most talented up-and-coming producers in town, Dave Villa. That track was all about collaboration, which is one of the many reasons why I love music so much. I’m very lucky to be able to create with some of Nashville’s best,” he said.

Buckrail thinks this songwriter is going places. But we’re confident he knows every road leads back home to Wyoming.
