FREMONT COUNTY, Idaho — Multiple fatalities were reported in a two-vehicle crash on Thursday evening, May 1, along eastbound U.S. Highway 20 near Henry’s Lake, Idaho, according to press releases by the Idaho State Police (ISP).

According to ISP, a Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with a Mercedes passenger van operating as a tour vehicle with 14 occupants.

The collision was reported around 7:15 p.m. at milepost 399. Six of the van’s occupants and the driver of the pickup truck were killed. The highway was closed for nearly seven hours following the accident, allowing emergency responders and an air ambulance to provide treatment.

The highway is a popular route for Yellowstone National Park visitors using the park’s West Entrance.

“Due to the magnitude of the incident and the ongoing process of notifying the next of kin, no names, ages, hometowns or nationalities have been released,” ISP wrote in a Friday press release. The incident remains under investigation.
