JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) posted on Facebook on Monday reminding drivers to be wary of and respect emergency and first responder vehicles on roadways.

While most emergency response vehicle traffic crashes in Wyoming between 2020 and 2024 occurred on the roadway (63.5%), a significant number of crashes — 36.5% of all traffic crashes in Wyoming during the same time period — occurred outside of the lane of travel, according to WYDOT.

Especially as a winter storm approaches, drivers are reminded that they should slow down and move out of the way of first responders. Vehicles with yellow emergency lights denote maintenance and tow services, blue represents law enforcement and red represents emergency.
