UPDATE: Beartooth Highway is fully open once again as of the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 25, stretching from Red Lodge, Montana, to Yellowstone National Park’s Northeast Entrance.

WYOMING — A portion of Beartooth Highway, US212, closed Friday due to winter weather conditions, Yellowstone National Park announced.

Beartooth Highway runs along the northern border of Wyoming, close to Montana. It is frequented by visitors coming to and from Yellowstone.

The highway is closed between Long Lake barricade, near Top of the World Store, and the Montana/Wyoming state line.

About four inches of snow and ice accumulated on the roadway. Staff will evaluate the weather on Saturday, Sept. 23, and will reopen the highway when conditions are safe.

According to Montana’s Department of Transportation, the highway is typically open from Memorial Day through mid-October.

See Yellowstone’s road conditions website for further information.
