JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Rotary Lunch Club recognized outstanding high school students with its Students of the Season awards on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Wort Hotel.

Five students were spotlighted, representing Jackson Hole High School, Summit Innovations High School, JH Community School, JH Classical Academy and Mountain Academy.

“We are honored to host these exceptional students throughout our community and celebrate them as Students of the Season,” says Rotary Club of Jackson Hole President Tom Bruno. “Their stories, lived experiences and dreams inspire us to continue to follow our passions, live authentically, practice gratitude and strive for purposeful lives.”

Jackson Hole High School Principal Bennet Lieberman introduced Marilyn Chun Juc. Lieberman spoke of her fearlessness and her commitment to her studies. Originally from Guatemala, she inspired Rotarians and guests with her story and how she prioritizes both her education and supporting her family. She is a student who has faced challenges but continues to meet opportunities with gratitude, resilience and determination.

Hannah Pagel from Mountain Academy presented senior Avery Taylor, a 4-H leader, skillful math and science student and talented dancer. Avery, who recently performed as the Wicked Witch in the Dancer’s Workshop production of “The Wizard of Oz,” talked about following her dreams and committing to continuing her dancing study. Her passion was evident as she discussed what dancing means to her and the reflection she had undergone before realizing that we cannot let fear get in the way of our dreams.

Monica Vitale introduced Classical Academy student Isaac Zderski, whom she described as someone of “unwavering kindness who lifts up his classmates.” Zderski shared he had let a negative mindset affect his ability to succeed and how, through contemplation, he corrected his state of mind to focus on how to be his best self. He strives to be the best person and student he can be and works to inspire other students and peers to do the same.

Summit Innovations School’s student of the season is Ana Castro, introduced by Pier Trudelle. Trudelle described Castro as “passionate and purposeful,” someone who endeavors to be a thoughtful leader. Castro reflected on growing up in Jackson and how each family member has sacrificed to support each other. A thriving student at Summit, she loves learning and looks forward to studying forensic psychology at Central Wyoming College, followed by the University of Wyoming.

Smith Maddrey introduced Jackson Hole Community School’s Sebastian Lira Hernandez. Hailed as someone who drives classroom discussion with thoughtful and passionate energy, Hernandez’s leadership is clearly felt throughout the Community School. He spoke about how authenticity plays a significant role in his life and how “our actions in the absence of an audience reflect our authenticity” and true self. Hernandez, a talented saxophone musician, remarked on how he plans to live his life with truth, commitment and pride.
