JACKSON, Wyo. — A red flag warning in areas of Wyoming surrounding, but not in, Jackson Hole, goes into effect today, August 6 at 12 p.m. and will last through this evening.

Northwestern Wyoming, including Pinedale and Dubois are impacted by the advisory, along with a swath of east Idaho northwest of Jackson.

Red flag warnings are issued when conditions mean fires can spark easily. The National Weather Service (NWS), which put out the alert, is predicting warm, dry conditions, with humidity as low as 19 percent and winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Temperatures are expected to reach the high 70s.

“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now…or will shortly,” NWS said.

Those in areas that fall under the warning should make sure fires are lit in a safe area where sparks can’t spread to nearby fuels, and should ensure fires are out and cold before leaving them. Follow tips for staying fire safe.
