West Central Wyoming, including the Bridger-Teton National Forest, is under a “red flag warning” through Monday at 9 p.m. as low humidities and gusty winds will make it easy for fires to spread quickly and erratically.

Red flag conditions are creating an uphill battle for crews responding to the Tannerite Fire, which had reached 1,340 acres as of 9 a.m. this morning. Evacuations are in effect. The human-caused fire started yesterday afternoon and spread rapidly. The fire is roughly 20% contained.

While the warning is in effect (and all the time, but especially until 9 p.m. tomorrow), be extra careful to make sure your campfire is completely out before leaving your campground. Avoid driving or parking in high, dead grass as a spark can ignite dry vegetation. Help crews focus on the fire at hand.
