JACKSON HOLE, WYO – As the official filing period for political office in Teton County begins today, some races are already starting to heat up.
The Board of County Commissioners will have three expiring terms up for grabs. Two of the seats are open as Smokey Rhea-D and Paul Vogelheim-R have publicly announced they will not seek reelection. Chair Mark Newcomb-D announced today he will seek a second term after being elected in 2014.
“It has been an honor and privilege to represent our community for the past three and a half years. We are an incredibly rich and vibrant community. We are justifiably proud of this place; we are passionate about it; and, perhaps most importantly, we are compassionate towards it and towards one another,” Newcomb stated. “Time and again over the past few years you’ve expressed your pride, passion and compassion on issue after issue, inspiring me to think carefully, deeply and deliberatively about every topic we’ve faced as a board, every decision we’ve made, every vote we’ve taken.”
Former mayor Mark Barron-R also recently announced his desire to run for the BCC as did community social worker and longtime 4H leader Mary Martin-R.
Seadar Rose Davis-D and Luther Propst-D are also intent to run for a seat on the county commission.
