CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The deadline to apply for the property tax relief program is approaching. Wyoming homeowners have until June 5 to submit their applications for a partial refund on their 2022 property taxes.

According to a release from Governor Mark Gordon’s office, homeowners can qualify for a refund if they have resided in Wyoming for at least five years, occupied their property for nine or more months in 2022 and their personal assets do not exceed $150,000 per adult member of the household (some exclusions apply).

In addition, household income must not exceed 125% of the median household income for the county where the property is located or the statewide median, whichever is larger.  For all but seven counties that amount is $86,400. In Teton County, the limit is $128,900. In neighboring Lincoln and Sublette counties the amount is $95,163 and $101,988, respectively.

The application is two pages and requires documentation showing proof of income and that 2022 property taxes were paid in full.

The program was created last year when Gordon included $1 million in the supplemental budget. HB-99, Property Tax Refund Program, was signed by the Governor on March 2.

Applications are available at each county’s treasurer’s office or at (307) 777-7320. Additional information on Wyoming’s property tax refund program, including eligibility requirements and how to apply, is available at  https://wptrs.wyo.gov/.
