JACKSON, Wyo. — Through a generous private donation, the Garaman Pathway in Russ Garaman Park will undergo a series of safety improvements this summer in an effort to reduce speeding bicyclists.
At Monday evening’s meeting, the Jackson Town Council unanimously approved a notice of award and contract approval for construction on the Garaman Pathway Safety Improvements Project. The new features, which will include a roundabout, chicane gates, rumble strips and colored pavement, are designed as “traffic calming” measures due to a high number of users in the area. Chicane gate fencing creates an S-turn for cyclists to ride through, inevitably reducing speed. According to staff notes, this segment of pathway saw over 102,000 bicycle trips and 32,000 pedestrian trips from June to September 2025.
“Over the past several years, the Jackson Hole community has experienced a significant increase in e-bike use on the community pathway system, raising concerns about the impacts of e-bikes and other fast-moving users on overall pathway safety,” the report reads.
After an attempt to secure a bid failed last year, the project was restructured and advertised again. Two bids were received, and the bid with the lower cost was chosen. Under the terms of the construction contract, the project must be completed on or before Sept. 20. The entire $213,696 cost of the project will be paid for through a private donation from the Garaman family’s charitable foundation. Further project details, including a start date, are still to come.

“I just wanted to express thank you to the Garaman family for generously making this possible,” said Councilor Alyson Spery. Her gratitude was echoed by others on Town Council.
