PINEDALE, Wyo. — A man from Pinedale has announced his intention to run for the U.S. House of Representatives seat up for grabs this November.
Matt McGinnis identifies as a fifth-generation Wyomingite and a drilling company employee on his campaign website. His campaign announcement noted that he believes “whole-heartedly in President Trump’s vision of a great country,” and that he intends to fight for the state’s ranchers.
His platform also includes an emphasis on the Second Amendment, a “pro-life” stance, a preference for state-managed wildlife over federal management, and a hope that the state can acquire land held by the Bureau of Land Management “so that it can be used to create more revenue for Wyoming.”
In his announcement, McGinnis appeared to take aim at some of the other candidates in the race for Harriet Hageman’s seat, without naming names. So far, those who have announced their campaigns are current Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray, entrepreneur Reid Rasner and former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow.
“My pride and appreciation of the hardworking Wyoming families is a keystone as to why I choose to run for election,” McGinnis said in his campaign announcement. “It is because of this pride that it infuriates me when none of the current candidates are true Wyomingites. One of the candidates was raised in a different state and has lived in Wyoming less than other states. Another chose to abandon Wyoming, then return and has the audacity to think we would elect them to represent us. Even another chose to run for an election in a different state! The people of Wyoming deserve better than these imposters running for their own gain.”
