YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — A portion of the West Thumb Geyser Basin parking area, located in the southern portion of Yellowstone National Park (YNP), will temporarily close to the public to allow Northwestern Energy to replace photovoltaic batteries.

The closure began the evening of June 6 and will continue through today.

According to YNP, the temporary closure will be in the southeast corner of the parking lot and will include a temporary closure of the public restrooms. Oversized vehicles, such as buses, towed units or large RVs will not be allowed to use the parking area due to lack of space for turning.

The parking area and restrooms will reopen once the work in complete on June 7, likely later in the day.
