JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department is proposing changes to its membership fee structure at the Community Recreation Center.
A Teton County press release published Wednesday states that Parks & Rec has opened a 45-day comment period on the potential updates. Though the new fee schedule encompasses the full range of offerings by Parks & Rec, the primary focus of the update is at the Community Recreation Center facility.
“This update allows us to expand access while ensuring long-term sustainability,” Parks & Rec Director Tyler Florence said in the statement. “We are prioritizing youth and inclusive access, while making measured, data-informed adjustments that align our services with the cost of operating and maintaining them.”
Parks & Rec highlighted a key element of the proposed changes as reductions to youth rates and expanded free youth access. Currently, a day pass to the Rec Center costs $5 for resident youth ages 3 to 10, and $10 for youth ages 11 to 17. Children under 3 years old can enter the aquatics center for free with a paying adult. The new fee schedule would allow children under the age of 8 to enter for free with a paying adult, and a day pass would cost $5 for youth ages 8 to 17.
To make up for the changes in youth fees, adult membership fees to the Rec Center would increase. A day pass for resident adults between 18 and 64 years old would increase by $2, from $13 to $15. Adults over 65 years old and military members would also see a $2 increase, from $10 to $12. The rate for a resident adult annual membership would increase from $540 to $590.
Another proposed change deals with the family and household membership model. The current family membership that is offered allows three people with a definition of “two legally married spouses and one dependent child under the age of 18.” A new proposed structure would allow three individuals living at the same address to share a membership. The cost for an annual household membership would increase from $810 to $890, with the option to add other individuals at a rate of $150 per year.
A new adaptive access program would allow qualifying individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities to receive complimentary access to the facility. If required, a support companion for any qualifying individual would also be allowed free access.
The 45-day public comment period is open until May 16. Public comments can be sent via email to parksandrecboard@tetoncountywy.gov. The Parks and Rec Advisory Board will meet on May 19, and public comment can also be submitted then. To view the proposal and to learn more information, visit the Teton County website here.
