JACKSON, Wyo. — With snow in the forecast this weekend, the Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department and Town of Jackson Public Works Department are preparing for winter street and sidewalk snow and ice removal.

Winter-related maintenance activities ensure ensure safe, accessible and connected public access throughout the Town of Jackson. Primary responsibilities include the removal of snow piles in a safe and efficient manner, the clearing of moveable objects from streets and sidewalks and the removal of tree limbs and shrubs. Sidewalks are designed to have a five-foot minimum clear through zone around immovable objects.

Town of Jackson Ordinances:

  • Pruning and Corner Clearance — Every owner of any tree overhanging any street or right-of-way within the Town are to prune branches so they don’t obstruct the light from any streetlamp or obstruct the view from any street intersection. A clear space of 12 feet above the surface of the street or right-of-way and 10 feet above a sidewalk surface is required. All dead, diseased or dangerous trees or broken or decayed limbs which constitute a hazard to public safety, are to be cleared and properly disposed.
  • Depositing of snow and ice restricted — No person, partnership, corporation, joint-stock company or syndicate are to deposit any snow and ice on or against a fire
    hydrant or on any sidewalk or roadway. An exception is for snow and ice windrowed on public roadways and curbs prior to the cleaning of sidewalks in business districts.
  • Plowing — Parks and Rec and Jackson Public Works request that businesses and property owners remind their plow contractors to clear any moveable objects from the sidewalk five-foot-clear through zone and cut back any trees or shrubs that are encroaching on streets or sidewalks.
