JACKSON, Wyo. — The new parking restrictions for the Home Ranch Lot caused a stir last week. Public response to Buckrail’s Facebook post sharing the article was quite vocal with some readers and Facebook commenters asking questions regarding where the money from parking tickets will go.
The Jackson Police Department shared with Buckrail that the city budget has a revenue-based line item named “Parking Tickets.” Money earned from tickets and fees technically counts as Police Department revenue and then is used for parking-related needs in Town.
Town of Jackson Public Works Director Johnny Ziem also shared with Buckrail that the money often goes to project and operations related to parking and expanding parking in the town. Those operations include but aren’t limited to maintenance and paying parking enforcement. According to Ziem, the income from parking tickets hovers around $15,000 a year, give or take.
Parking restrictions for the Home Ranch Lot will go into effect on April 15, and will match the current three-hour parking restrictions on streets in town. Employees are encouraged to use other long-term parking options, like the parking garage.
