JACKSON, Wyo. — Join Off Square Theatre for the 2024 Thieme Youth Musical, “Oliver!”, where Jackson’s youth take over the main stage.
Consider yourself at home with Lionel Bart’s classic musical based on Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist.” The Tony and Olivier Award-winning show is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike. In Off Square Theatre’s production, 60 students make up the cast and backstage crew of this timeless story, along with an 11-piece orchestra conducted by Laura Huckin.
The streets of Victorian England will come to life in Jackson as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. Adventures are in store for Oliver and his friends in this coming-of-age classic.
“We chose this show because it is such a crowd pleaser and really brings generations together. The young people involved with this production are fearless and openhearted,” said Sadie Frank, Off Square’s education director and director of “Oliver!” “They have risen to the challenge of a full-length musical with live orchestration.”

Run time is approximately 120 minutes with a 10-minute intermission. Performances will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 24, at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. ASL interpreters will be present for the Feb. 23 performance.
Off Square Theatre produces the Mike and Jean Louise Thieme Youth Musical annually. The Youth Musical is an opportunity for young theatre artists to put what they learn into practice on stage with a professional production team and to share the joyful magic of theatre with audiences from Teton County and beyond.
