WILSON, Wyo. — Morning traffic on Teton Pass slowed significantly around 9:45 a.m. on Monday, April 28, when a commercial car carrier overturned at milepost 10 and blocked the eastbound lane.
According to Trooper Brad Latchaw with the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the westbound carrier was loaded up with two vehicles, making it top-heavy. The driver then approached a curve going too quickly, and the momentum of the load carried him into the eastbound lane. When he tried to correct, the vehicle overturned on the driver’s side and slid across the eastbound lane.
The driver sustained minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital, according to Latchaw. He added that the driver was cited for careless driving. The incident was cleared up just before 1 p.m.
New precipitation in the area might have played a “very little” part in the incident, according to Latchaw, but he noted that the roads were not slushy, and attributed the crash to the vehicle’s speed on that part of the route.
“He definitely wasn’t speeding, but obviously he was going too fast for his combination of being top-heavy and approaching the curve,” Latchaw told Buckrail.
