New playground in Alpine will be true community effort

STAR VALLEY, WYO – Ferry Peak Park in Alpine will soon be getting a new playground…practically overnight! No, wait, faster than overnight.

Volunteers from the Town of Alpine and surrounding community will join KaBOOM! on Saturday, September 14 to transform the existing outdated park into a kid-designed, state-of-the-art playground. And it is expected to be completed in just six hours. The new playground will help make play the easy choice for kids and families in Alpine and the Star Valley region.

Anyone interested in volunteering for a build day can register here.

Back in July, kids from the community were invited to draw their dream playground. Inspired by these etchings, the new playground was designed by Landscape Structures to be a comprehensive mashup of everything kiddos wanted.

The new playground will provide hundreds of kids in the community with an inviting, safe place to play over its lifetime. As any expert will freely share, play is essential to physical, creative, cognitive, social and emotional development. The current park in this location has served the community well for roughly 20 years, but the kids have spoken and it’s time for an updated design.

Credit goes to Rob Hagedorn who has got the ball rolling. The community-minded Alpine local has generously made Ferry Peak Park a reality and, further, has now secured the services of national nonprofit KaBOOM! to help make possible the playground makeover.

The Hagedorn-KaBOOM! partnership is hoping to create an oasis where kids feel valued and loved, and where their potential is supported, nurtured and celebrated. That’s all part of KaBOOM’s vision in every community they are introduced in.

And you can help! It takes many community hands to make light work. Wherever these KaBOOM! projects are built, hundreds of committed volunteers have turned out to help play an active role in supporting their community and their kids. Alpine should be no different.
