JACKSON, Wyo. — Wildfire season isn’t quite over yet.
Bridger-Teton National Forest reported a new fire in the Gros Ventre Wilderness, southwest of Gros Ventre Peak. Dubbed the Highline Fire, its location corresponds with a map of lightning strikes from a Sept. 19 storm that passed through the area, so it is likely lightning-caused.
The .25-acre fire is burning in an isolated pocket of mixed conifer, willow, and aspens near the Highline Trail. The potential for it to grow is low, so no trails will be closed at this time. Firefighters monitor the area over the next few days to inform visitors of fire activity and relay any new growth or changing fire behavior. Hikers and hunters are advised to used caution near a wildfire, and should check trailhead signs before heading out.
