JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson/Teton County Affordable Housing Department presented a project plan for the Jackson Street Apartments, a new 57-unit 100% deed-restricted affordable housing project.
The project is located on 10 lots at 335 S. Glenwood, immediately south of the Snake River Brew Pub. Looking north is Hansen Ave., Jackson Street is west and Kelly Ave. is south.
Of the 57 units, seven will be 3 bedrooms, 41 will be 2 bedrooms and nine will be 1 bedroom units. The project creates 112 total bedrooms.
Of the 57 units, 75% will be affordable rentals and 25% will be workforce rental.
The project is a public-private partnership. The Cumming Foundation owns the 6 northern lots, zoned for Commercial Residential. Teton County owns the four southern lots, zones neighborhood high density-1.
Housing Director April Norton explained that the properties owned by the Cumming Foundation are in the lodging overlay and could be short-term rentals or a hotel but instead the family is partnering to build affordable housing.
Because the project is 100% deed-restricted, the project will go straight to a building permit application.
According to Norton, based on intake forms submitted to the affordable housing department, there are over 400 households who earn less than half the median income, over 450 households that earn 50-80% of median income and over 400 households that earn between 80-120% of median income.
“There are a lot of people in our community that are desperate for affordable housing that is stable,” Norton said.
Groundbreaking is set for 2022. The project should be completed by 2024.
