JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. – Natalia Macker is the 2019 “Commisisoner of the Year.” The Teton County Commissioner is the first woman recognized for the honor, which goes to a county commissioner who goes above and beyond the call of dury for their county and the state.
Macker, who chairs the Board of Teton County Commissioners, was recognized at the Wyoming County Commissioner’s Association (WCCA) annual conference last week in Casper, as the “2019 Riding for the Brand” honoree.
During the award presentation, WCCA president Troy Thompson said, “Commissioner Macker is a mentor, inspiring current and future trailblazing, community-minded women and girls to step forward and fulfill their highest ambitions in life.”
County commissioners from around the state annually select an individual to distinguish as commissioner of the year with the “Riding for the Brand” award.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized by my peers from around the state. Being part of the WCCA has deepened my understanding of public service,” Macker said. “My colleagues at the WCCA have been mentors and friends, showing me how vital local government is and how much we can do together to improve communities all across Wyoming. We have so much more in common than we think.”
Last month, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon appointed Macker to the Wyoming Council for Women’s Issues. She is the first elected official to join the council. Macker said she is looking forward to learning about the challenges facing women in Wyoming and finding ways to address them, including economic diversification and affordable child care.
Macker also serves on the Land Quality Advisory Board for the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and on the steering committee for the state health needs assessment. She has been a member of the Teton County Board of Commissioners since August 2015, and has served as chairwoman since January 2019.
