VICTOR, Idaho — This Music on Main headliner is all about the good things in life. Mountain-reggae gypsy-jazz infused soul band, Cole & The Thornes of Bozeman, Montana, are an eclectic, funky group with an infectious uplifting energy. Lead singer Colita Thorne’s (aka Cole) powerful, sultry vocals and empowering lyrics are accompanied by jazz guitar, island ukulele, Latin-inspired percussion, and playful horn melodies.
Their award-winning album Map Maker was released in 2018 and was voted as Bozeman’s best album of the year in 2019. They are currently working on their second album to be released this summer.
The Thornes have been featured on Montana PBS and have performed at many music festivals such as Summer Fest, Reggae in the Rockies, Groovin On, Montana State Hemp Fest, Music at Melvin and Big Sky Brewfest. Their sound will get you moving and leave you searching for that groovy soulshine they indefinitely radiate.
Led by ukelelist Colita Thorne, Cole and the Thornes also includes Jordan Rodenbiker on bass, Jesse Atkins on guitar, Alex Platt on drums, Adam Burke on auxiliary percussion, and playful horn melodies by Daniel Wood on trumpet and Matthew Powell-Palm on saxophone.
Cole, who does all the songwriting, told the online music magazine Logjam Presents that she finds inspiration from her travels, the world and experiences. “I was inspired by my travels around the world and the lessons I learned about living in the moment and finding balance in the light and the dark within my own life struggles,” she said in the 2019 interview.
“The band came into bloom after my solo freight train tour across the country playing gigs in each town I found myself in,” she continued. “I was inspired by the roughness and wildness of the train riding lifestyle and came back to Bozeman to take my music career seriously.” Channel your inner island mountain vibes and get ready to groove the night away during Cole & The Thornes.
