JACKSON, Wyo. — Mountain Academy is suspending upper school programming at its Jackson campus, its board announced in conjunction with the Teton Science School Board of Directors on Thursday, June 27.
The decision to no longer offer grades nine through 12 at the school comes after high school enrollment had dropped off to a point where there were no longer enough students to “keep up with the educational experience that school leaders wanted to deliver,” according to a press release.
Mountain Academy is the independent day school affiliated with Teton Science Schools, located on Coyote Canyon Road off of WY22. It will continue to provide schooling to children up through eighth grade, including its early childhood program, which serves kids ages 18 months to two years old.
“This was a difficult decision for all of us, but we recognized the need to focus our resources and faculty in the early childhood through eighth-grade programs,” Mountain Academy Advisory Board (MAAB) Co-Chair Ashley Finan said in a press release. “By consolidating our focus on the Lower and Middle Schools at the Jackson Campus, we are confident we can continue to deliver exceptional, place-based educational curricula.”
The TSS Board of Directors and MAAB report that they’re working to find other education options for upper-school-aged students who had enrolled at Mountain Academy for the 2024/25 school year, including applying to the JH Community School, which they said some students are doing.
