WILSON, Wyo. — Beginning yesterday afternoon, Teton Interagency Fire resources on the Jackson Ranger District started ignitions on Mosquito Creek Road.

However, field conditions were wetter than anticipated, said the Forest Service in an update last night.

“Crews were able to burn approximately 16 acres today and will remain in the area to patrol and ensure objectives are met,” said the Forest Service. “It is not likely ignitions will continue this week.”

This prescribed burn in the Mosquito Creek North Unit is part of the Teton to Snake Fuels Reduction Project. Crews planned to target approximately 100 acres for treatment.

The project is designed to decrease the risk from unwanted wildfires that could impact communities in the wildland urban interface (WUI), specifically communities in or near Phillips Ridge, Fish Creek, Teton Village, Wilson and the Fall Creek Corridor.

Local notifications will take place as well as social media postings alerting the public of when ignitions will begin.  For more information, contact the Jackson Ranger District Fire Prevention Staff at 307-739-5424 or visit Tetonfires.com, the Bridger-Teton National Forest website www.fs.usda.gov/btnf or follow the BTNF Facebook page.
