JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole hockey team is back home in the comfort of the Snow King Sports and Event Center after a rugged road trip to Colorado where the Moose suffered their first loss of the season.
The Vail Yeti are a scrappy bunch that match up favorably with the Moose. The Yeti are used to playing at elevation so the Moose can’t expect them to wear down over the course of a game. In fact, the Yeti appear to get stronger as the game goes on.
Vail scored three times in the third period last Friday in a losing effort, and struck twice more in the final frame Saturday to secure the 6-5 win over Jackson. Notoriously slow starters, the Moose will have to be careful to come out of the locker room ready to go tonight at the drop of the puck.
In the good news/bad news department, the good news for Jackson is they have a new offensive weapon in Jason Reese. The talented 31-year-old from Oregon managed a hat trick against Vail Friday night including the game-winner. He added a goal and two assists Saturday as well for a 6-point weekend.
The bad news? He won’t be available for the Moose this weekend due to personal reasons. The 5’11” 177-lb forward will be a welcome addition to team that already has a ton of firepower with leading scorer Drew Akins, and snipers AJ Sanders and Tom Hartnett.
The Moose (5-1) hope to get back on the winning track tonight against an old familiar foe.
