JACKSON, Wyo. — Last week, Buckrail asked its readers what they saw as the most memorable moments of 2025. Readers mentioned housing issues, the rain in December and tourism.
Many of Buckrail’s readers remember a moose getting particularly friendly with an elk statue. Some readers mentioned the perennial conversation around housing affordability.
One reader mentioned the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity over the summer and the impacts on local families.
“I will never forget picking up my son early from summer camp in late July of 2025. He was so excited to be picked up early thinking he would have some extra time at the County Fair. Only to find out that I was picking him up early to go barricade ourselves at home. … Instead of watching my son enjoy the rides, food, and time with friends, I watched [my son] pull all the curtains, lock all the doors and try to come up with a plan for our kitty in case we were picked up and our cat was left to fend for herself.”
Others remembered the sad passing of local photographer Flo McCall.
“What I will remember most about 2025 in Jackson is the heartbreaking loss of my dear friend Flo who was tragically killed in June,” one reader shared. “Flo was a part of the Jackson community for over 30 years and touched so many lives with her kindness and friendship. Her passing was a profound reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to cherish the people around us. Please think twice before you drink and drive.”
Some discussed the very warm December unusual start to the holiday season: “This Christmas season… A weather anomaly! Skiers jonesing for snow, children yearning for snowmen, and Santa searching for somewhere to land that isn’t dirt!”
Whatever the memories, 2025 was one for the books. Happy New Year!
