WYOMING – A Montana man reported missing for days was found dead this week in the Gallatin River in Yellowstone National Park. The body of Dane M. Offutt, 29, of Big Sky, Montana was recovered from the river after days of searching by authorities.

Yellowstone Park rangers originally began a search for a potential victim after responding to a report of a vehicle off the road and abandoned near milepost 29 on Highway 191. That was Saturday, October 7. The search turned up nothing.

Days later, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office was asked to check on a man reported missing by his employer. Offutt’s place of business notified authorities that he had not reported for work for two shifts and that wasn’t like him.

Additional searches of the area were then conducted including aid from search and rescue dogs. The search was expanded and it was finally a drone that captured an image of Offutt’s body, downstream from where the vehicle was abandoned.
