JACKSON, WY— Every year, SHIFT trains a diverse group of young outdoor recreationists, SHIFT’s “Emerging Leaders,” to help revitalize conservation by making it relevant to all Americans.
Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is one of SHIFT’s core pillars. In conjunction with Teton Science Schools, participants receive three days of training in advance of The SHIFT Festival, then lead the proceedings as panelists, moderators and keynote speakers. They leave the conference ready to enact real change in their communities.
Meet this year’s Emerging Leaders
And this year, the Emerging Leaders will host Jackson’s foodie event of the year: the People’s Banquet. The Banquet celebrates the local food system with a matchup of the valley’s finest chefs and best producers. The evening begins with locally-sourced cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and the banquet begins at 8 p.m. following the Emerging Leaders’ StorySlam.
The StorySlam is a chance to get to know this year’s Emerging Leaders on an even deeper level. The stories we tell of our relationships to the land connect us not only to our communities, but also to one another. Coordinated by 2018 Emerging Leader Sarah Shimazaki, this special evening features the stories of participants from the 2018 Emerging Leaders Program who, in telling them, show how seemingly disparate pieces of the American puzzle can fit together around our public lands.
