Lt. Matt Carr named undersheriff of Teton County Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news
Lt. Matt Carr was named undersheriff by Sheriff Jim Whalen.

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The Teton County Sheriff’s Office announced that Lieutenant Matt Carr has been named undersheriff as of today. As undersheriff, Lt. Carr will assume a greater management position within the Sheriff’s Office, including increased authority and involvement in overall decision-making processes.

Lieutenant Carr has been in his current position for over one year, and has worked closely with Sheriff Jim Whalen during that time, developing important relationships within the Sheriff’s Office and in the community.

“I’ve spoken with Lt. Carr about this change, and he is excited about the opportunity and dedicated to his duty,” Whalen said. “He is qualified and competent, and will continue to serve our community well.”

The move could signal an implied endorsement of Carr for sheriff as he runs for the office as a Democrat against Slade Ross-I and Michelle Weber-R. Sheriff Whalen also indicated that he will be out of the office more frequently over the next few months due to family health issues, and that naming an undersheriff will ensure operational stability in his occasional absence.

Lt. Carr has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 20 years. He has served in varying capacities, including different assignments in supervisory roles.

“I’m honored by the opportunity, and I look forward to the new challenges that the position will bring,” Carr said.
