JACKSON, Wyo. — A red flag warning is in effect for much of southwestern Wyoming, including almost all of Lincoln and Sublette counties. Due to these conditions, Lower Valley Energy (LVE) announced on social media that it has placed its electrical system on high alert.

“During these critical periods, we temporarily disable our automatic recloser devices that normally restore power quickly after minor interruptions, because these devices could potentially spark a wildfire when winds, temperature and humidity reach dangerous levels,” reads the Facebook post from LVE.

When LVE cannot rely on automatic restoration of electricity, manual inspections must take place to inspect the safety of the power grid before turning electricity back on. Because of this heightened safety protocol, power blinks, outages and preventive power shutoffs could occur.

LVE asks the public to report any concerning conditions like “trees near power lines or flashes from electrical equipment.”

In the Facebook post, LVE wrote that safety and community protection are the top priorities during dangerous weather events.
