WILSON, Wyo. — In an attempt to keep up with luxury ski towns like Aspen, local developers are getting into the designer retail game.

Louis Vuitton has announced plans to open a flagship location in Jackson Hole by 2026. The globally renowned label is in talks to acquire the Wilson building that formerly housed Teton Gravity Research by the end of the year, with the potential to open satellite locations inside the Jackson Hole Airport and at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

In addition to an existing Aspen location, LV has a growing presence in the Mountain West, with stores in Salt Lake City and Denver.

Teton County’s Business Development Director Chad Astor expressed optimism that this new store could be a bellwether for new business trends in the area.

“Jackson is already a destination for so many things: skiing, hiking, camping, etc.” Astor told Buckrail via email. “Wouldn’t it be marvelous to become a luxury commerce destination, too?”

Westbank resident Goldie Rockefeller told Buckrail she was “over the moon” to be able to shop in person, at long last.

“I’m sick of waiting for LV items to get shipped to my assistant,” she said. “Now I can just send him right down the road. I’ve got my eye on a set of monogrammed steamer trunks.”

LV has applied for special exemptions from the land development regulations currently in place within the county; County Commissioners will hold a public comment period regarding the building proposal starting in May.

The mayor said this is just the tip of the iceberg.

“We’ve had offers from Chanel, Gucci, Prada and Hermes in the last week,” he told Buckrail. “The goal is to attract a certain kind of visitor, and convenient retail opportunities like this will be a real draw.”
